What is clinical nutrition?

The modality of clinical nutrition, is one which falls under the category of ‘complimentary medicine’. Essentially, complimenting the underpinnings of Western medicine. This means that your clinical nutritionist has a depth of understanding and respect for Western medicine approaches, whilst also valuing and implementing holistic medicine approaches. This means your practitioner will work alongside essential persons of your care team such as GP’s, specialists and allied health in order to help you achieve the best health outcomes.

Clinical nutritionist aim to optimise the health of individuals by manipulating their diet to provide the highest form of nutrient intake, whilst increasing their bodies ability to absorb and digest the nutrients it receives. The purpose of this is to reduce the risk of future disease, and/or reduce or cease the severity of current health conditions.

Nutritionists are skilled in areas of understanding body processes, understanding constituents of food, recognising common symptoms and their causes, thorough investigative techniques and depth of knowledge in supplementation for those that require it.
